At first, as a newbie to the ways of making money online, it seems like the road is never ending. There is so much to learn and so many different ways to make money online that it becomes hard to know where to start. Even worse is getting an idea, learning all about it, only to get started and then be distracted by the next latest way to make money.
Let's face it, there are hundreds of ways to make money online and with almost everyone in the developed world constantly connected to the internet there are loads of opportunities out there. But don't get distracted! Find one thing, one opportunity that appeals to you and your way of doing things and go for it till you get it finished. There is nothing worse than a half finished project in this business.
The way to get through your project is to take it in little chunks. Every day do something, just one thing, that moves you closer to your goal. EVERY DAY!
It may just be writing down an idea or taking some photos, but all these little steps move you closer to your goal of making money from the internet. You only need to get to the stage where you make you first Dollar, Pound or Euro and that will validate all that work and give you the much needed boost to get you going again full of belief.
So let us look again at the 3 tools you will need and see if we can make the first step.
1: Hosting
2: CMS (Content management System) WordPress
3: Autoresponder
You cannot have a website without it being hosted somewhere. A hosting provider is someone who provides space on a server which they run and maintain, hopefully securely. For those of you who are new to this there are a couple of options here.
- You can build your website on a platform such as Blogger or WordPress.com where the hosting is free and setting up is as simple as opening a Facebook account.
- Or you can pay for hosting from a reputable hosting provider.
Unless you have absolutely no money I would suggest you pay for your hosting. The main reasons being the flexibility in the site which you can build and knowing that (unless you are going against the providers terms of service) your site or business as it will become, is your property and under very little threat of being removed out with your control.
The last part is something too many marketers have fallen for, setting up a website with free tools which starts to bring in money only for the platform to make a change in its rules, where the marketers loses not only his site but his income stream. Always pay for the tools if you can afford to. The exception to this is WordPress, but even there we will be looking to pay for premium themes...
So to get a hosting account we will need to check out ideas for a name, buy it from a domain service and then sign up for hosting with a hosting provider which is not linked to your domain registrar. All of this is very easy and very affordable. Domains can be bought for only $2-3 per year and hosting plans from $3-4 per month are available. I will be making some tutorials on how to set this all up for those of you who feel the need to learn more.
For those who are happy to just go ahead and get their hosting account set up I recommend Hostgator as it is very easy to use, provide great tutorials and the service is first class especially should you run into problems. I have personally used them for several years without any problems.
Once you have your domain name and hosting account set up we will be ready to move on to our second step, installing and learning about WordPress which will be my next post.
Good luck,
David
